The Bernstein Diet

One of the hottest diet trends out there right now is the Bernstein diet and you too may be thinking about trying it out. Many people report very rapid results while following it so if they’re seeing that type of success, what’s holding you back?

What This Diet Is All About

The diet was initially developed by a doctor who was aiming to help his patients drop weight quickly, to the tune of 4-5 pounds per week. They were put on a very low calorie diet plan of 800-1350 calories per day, choosing between a select group of foods that would provide their body with their overall nutritional requirement.

The diet is broken down into phases with the first phase being the most intense and then the next two phases being lesser intense.  The third phase is the simple tune-up diet and is used for those who need to lose lower amounts of weight.

What You’ll Eat

When on this diet plan, you’ll choose between the main protein sources of veal cutlet, chicken livers, small steaks, chicken breasts, shrimp, tuna, as well as white fish.  In addition to that, you’ll also get your selection of a wide range of fruits and vegetables such as celery, mushrooms, tomatoes, lettuce, bean sprouts, cabbage, apples, lemons, oranges, and green, oranges, as well as peppers.

Together these will form the bulk of the nutrition plan.  Calorie free beverages, spices and seasonings, along with triscuits and melba toast are also allowed sparingly.

Pros:

  • Will produce rapid weight loss
  • Does provide a good amount of lean protein, necessary to maintain muscle mass
  • Doesn’t require the user to exercise

Cons:

  • Can cause the metabolism to slow down due to the very low calorie nature of it
  • Could cause nutritional deficiencies if food is not selected very carefully
  • Can’t be used long-term without health problems occurring
  • May leave some people feeling very low in energy

The Verdict

All in all, while this diet will help you lose the weight quickly it is not the most ideal diet to be using, so if you’re looking to see optimal health and dieting success, you may want to look elsewhere.
