One favorite of many people’s is the classic beef burger – a simple yet highly delicious meal. But now you are watching over your body weight more carefully, you may have banished this dish from the menu.
Do you really need to do so? Or can you make room for it once again? It’s very easy to create a healthier version of the classic beef burger if you know which ingredients to swap out and perfect substitutions for those said ingredients.
This recipe does just that. Rather than preparing it with the high fat ground beef that most people use, you’re going to be using ground turkey, which offers far more protein and is almost fat-free.
In addition to that, you’ll also be adding more vegetables into the mix to ensure that you get the necessary fiber your body needs to stay satisfied and healthy.
Serve it on top of English muffins rather than whole wheat buns to lower the calorie and carb counts and you’ll be setting yourself up for success.
1 lb of ground turkey
¼ tsp. ground black pepper
½ cup sliced yellow onion
½ diced red pepper
¼ cup finely diced celery
1 8 oz. can of no-salt added tomato sauce
½ cup low-sugar ketchup
¼ cup low sugar barbeque sauce
1 tsp. chilli powder
4 whole grain English muffins
Heat ground turkey in a small skillet until cooked through, seasoning with black pepper.
Add the red pepper, onion, celery, tomato sauce, ketchup, barbeque sauce, and chilli powder and continue to cook for 5-10 minutes, stirring the entire time through.
Serve on top of sliced and toasted English muffins.
